Nonlinear optical phenomena induced by intense terahertz pulses

Abstract

<p>In this paper, a tilted-pump-pulse-front scheme with a LiNbO3 crystal to generate intense single-cycle terahertz (THz) pulses is shown in detail. It is also shown that the intense single cycle THz pulses induce strong spectral modulations in the excitonic and band-edge absorption of ZnSe/ZnMgSSe MQWs. Furthermore, it is indicated that a 1 MV/cm electric field of a THz pulse allows us to excite electrons from the valence to conduction band of GaAs/AlGaAs MQWs and observe a bright exciton luminescence.</p>
