Abstract
<p>Oxygen that is the reactant of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is paramagnetic in the ground state, and the ORR activity is improved by applying the external magnetic field to the electrode catalyst. However, the relationship between the spontaneous magnetization of the electrode surface and the ORR is still unclear. In this study, we investigated the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and ORR characteristics of molecular beam epitaxy Co/Pt(111) ferromagnetic surfaces in order to clarify the influence of the interaction between the magnetic anisotropy and the ORR characteristics.</p>
