Description

A rash appeared on the left lower leg of a 77-year-old man about a year and a half ago. He was treated with topical steroid ; however, there was no improvement. He visited a dermatologist who performed punch skin biopsy. Histopathologically, the rash was suspected to indicate squamous cell carcinoma. He visited our department, and we performed resection. Following histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses, the coexistence of Merkel cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and Bowen’s disease was identified. Therefore, our diagnosis was Merkel cell carcinoma development in the presence of Bowen’s disease. Merkel cell carcinoma is known to be associated with other skin tumors ; it is discussed here and histopathological evidence is provided.[Skin Cancer (Japan) 2019 ; 34 : 160-164]
