Abstract

Kasuga tumulus in Ikaruga Nara is a circle shaped tumulus with 30 m diameter. Fujinoki tumulus locates near this tumulus and known that sophisticated burial accessories are excavated. Comparison between these tumulus is important but excavating Kasuga tumulus has not done because of the difficulty of its location surrounded by historical towns. We made inside image of the tumulus through the mound by the method of muon-radiography using nuclear emulsion detector and detected a huge cavity in it. Number of muon from the direction of cavity is large and it indicates that its size is 6.1±0.5 m (width 1.8 m, height 2.0 m). The direction of depth is also considered using simulation and archaeological estimations are argued.
