Description

This research focuses on the narratives of people suffering from higher brain dysfunction to highlight the kinds of hardships they confront in their daily lives and the interrelation between those hardships. By doing so, the research focal points for future approaches are suggested. The research employs the qualitative research method of a survey. The survey consisted of separate interviews with the clients and their social workers, which are then analyzed through qualitative coding. The results demonstrate the following hardships that people suffering from higher brain dysfunction confront in their daily lives: (1) an inability to accumulate experiences; (2) differences between their own understandings and realities; (3) ongoing self-denial; (4) ongoing rejection by others; and (5) ongoing hindrance to social relations. The research suggests focal points for future approaches for each issue. And it shows the possibility for systematizing in social work that aids people suffering from higher brain dysfunction, for which the provision of support has typically been seen as difficult.
