Abstract

A questionnaire survey was conducted on the living conditions and points to consider regarding the healthy living of children in Shokei Kindergarten. Major findings from the survey were: (1)Most of the young children are getting sound sleep. Fewer than 40% are able to wake up by themselves. The average time to get up in the morning is 7:20 a.m. The average bedtime is 9:01 p.m. with 9% of children going to bed after 10:00 p.m..(2)Of those children who go to bed after 10:00 p.m., most watch television, play with their families, and so on. 10% of these children have a midnight snack. (3)Over 90% of the children have breakfast every morning. Fewer than 10% have a bowel movement before 8:00 a.m. Most of the children do not have a regular schedule regarding bowel movements. (4)Most of the children play indoors, doing such things as drawing pictures, watching television, and so on. Over 50% play outdoors for less than 30 minutes a day. These findings suggest that the morning bowel movement habits of young children are influenced by whether the children regularly go to bed early, what time they eat breakfast, and how much time they have left from after breakfast until going to school.
