Abstract

This paper presents an application of WFD to the system integration test for a financial digital distribution system. The QFD model of the system integration test was developed from the authors' practical experiences with QFD to software design. The objective is to make it easier and more effective to conduct the system integration test by utilizing QFD. One of the fundamental characteristics of QFD is the emphasis it places on taking customer requirements and decomposing them into finer and finer grained requirements in a step by step manner. The purpose is to end up with quantifiable design characteristics from which an engineer can optimize a solution. To date most QFD application in software development had been applied at the design phase. The author decided, as a consequence, to modify QFD to improve the software system integration test. The results of the test were used to demonstrate quantifiable characteristic differenes between two different platforms. The author, who managed this effective use of QFD, did not apply a more widely used "House of Quality" model common to the manufacturing industry. He did, however, modify the QFD model for the software system integration test on how to present quantifiable characteristics and analyze them effectively.
