Description

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a mediator training program and to discuss the effectiveness of the educational program of counseling techniques for legal specialists. The investigation was carried out by quantitative and qualitative approach on 70 certified administrative procedures legal specialists who attended the standard mediator training program. For quantitative data, the changes of the score of attitudes or skills toward conflict resolution were collected. For qualitative data, the learning experiences in this training program were collected by free description. An ANOVA was conducted; independent variables were age and preparation for training and dependent variables were the changes of the attitudes and skills toward conflict resolution. It showed that dependent variables significantly changed toward a positive direction in low age and groups with preparation. The result from the analysis of the learning experiences showed six major categories, 1) understanding about conflict, 2) concern of integrating resolution, 3) acquisition of skills to promote dialogue, 4) usefulness, 5) positive change of myself, and 6) recognition of problems. The result of having compared the number of subjects who described every group resembled the quantitative result. Improvement and the problem of future programs were discussed.
