Abstract

Japanese autonomous management system, such as QC circles, is drawing much attention from abroad, as a basis for high productivity and high product quality in Japanese industries. The background of its succes is two-fold : first, it conforms well with the characteirstic Japanese social climate, and secondly, Japanese workmen are generally well trained in the basic philosophy and fundamental technologies of industrial engineering, which originated from Taylor's scientific management. In this paper, after reviewing the position of the scientific management in the history of management and the characteristics of Japanese social climate, the author will discusses some of the problems concerning some new ways of management baesd upon the autonomous management principle.
