Description
The carbon supported Pt-Ni alloy catalysts possessing promising structural properties such as high metal loadings (> 20 wt%) and small metal particle sizes (2-3 nm) have been successfully prepared by using ion-exchange resin as initial carbon material. The metal composition was easily controlled by changing the metal composition in the ion-exchange solution. These catalysts showed high catalytic activity for the dehydrogenation of formic acid at temperatures in the range of 100-200 °C. The turnover frequency of Pt50Ni50/C was higher than that of Pt/C, indicating the catalytic activity was enhanced by the alloy formation.
