Description
<p>We surveyed nursing modalities in hospitals which have over 300 beds Japan. This survey was conducted in April-May, 1996. The questionnaires were sent to 1,595 nursing managers. We received valid replies (41.1 %) from 656 hospitals.</p><p>The results obtained were as follows: About nursing modalities, 5,978 valid questionnaires were returned. Respondents were asked which 5 basic nursing modalities were used in their ward; functional method, case method, team nursing, primary nursing, and modular primary nursing. Thirty-two percent of the wards were using team nursing. Sixty-four point three percent were using team nursing either individually or together with other nursing modalities. Nine point seven percent were using modular primary nursing, and 4.1 % were using primary nursing.</p><p>The rate using one nursing modality together with others was 41.3 % in all wards. There were 31 different combinations of nursing modalities. There were some differences according to the number of beds in each hospital. Functional method either individually or together with other nursing modalities were used in more than half of the psychiatric wards.</p>
