Abstract

Patients with hereditary hearing loss usually visit hospitals as one of many patients with hearing loss without clues of genetic causes. Consideration on possibilities of genetic causes based on clinical pictures will improve quality of clinical care by choosing appropriate tests, examinations and therapy. Patients who are provided with such clinical information conformed to the clinical condition, especially before genetic tests, are likely to have clinical care without troubles and less psychological stresses. Here, we describe such phenotype-driven strategies for genomic medicine in clinical care for patients with hereditary hearing loss by showing representative genetic causes and clinical pictures.
