Description
<p> Previous studies on prediction of responses of non-structural components during earthquakes based on response spectra analysis sometimes have inconsistent accuracy because of limitations on the parameters used. This paper proposes an improved simplified method for the prediction of the pseudo-spectral acceleration as well as spectral displacement of non-structural components in buildings. The method takes into account the frequency contents and duration of the earthquake input motion and the dynamic interaction and amplification effect from vibration periods and damping ratios of the building and non-structural components. The method is verified using single-mass systems, and then using multi-story building.</p>
