Abstract

Power skiving technology is a productive alternative for manufacturing internal gear to the shaping and hobbing processes. However, the complex geometrical relationship between skiving tool and workpiece complicates the generation of the chip formation which makes the research on chip shape is of interest to advance the understanding of skiving process. In this study, numerical analysis with Z-map method was proposed to construct cutting process of power skiving and followed by the experimental verification. As a result, the proposed method successfully obtained the shapes of uncut chips for each cutting pass and a good conformance between numerical and experimental investigations on cutting chips indicates the Z-map method based on numerical simulation is a suitable tool for advancing insight into power skiving process.
