Abstract

<p>In this paper, we investigated indicators and pieces of evidence for measuring the substantialization of the credit hour system from university evaluation reports. Efforts to enhance the hours of study outside the classroom are increasing in Japanese universities as part of policy. However, the absence of common indicators and pieces of evidence makes it difficult for universities and evaluation institutions to measure the effectiveness of substantializing the credit hour system. In Noda and Shibui (2016), indicators and pieces of evidence for measuring the substantialization of the credit hour system in a bachelor degree program between FY2005 and FY2011 were investigated in an exploratory way by means of analyzing the text of past evaluation reports. In this study, we updated the data from FY2011 to FY2014 and added data from not only the bachelor degree program but also the graduate and professional degree programs. Indicators showing the difference of evaluation cycles and degree programs were compared by statistical analysis. The possibility of setting indicators for measuring the effectiveness of substantializing the credit hour system was discussed.</p>
