Abstract

Some young engineers and students who grew up after the advancement computer technology are blindly convinced that results of CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) are equivalent to those of real phenomena. Therefore, we decided to research the "Waribashi Bridge" and the "Taketombo" as examples of PBL, which suppress the difference between such insufficient real experience and virtual experience. Further, low-cost FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printers are widely used in these PBL fields because they have the advantage that shapes can be easily formed, even in the field of engineering education. Meanwhile, Arduino can easily control mechanical parts using sensors, actuators, etc. without designing complex circuits. Therefore, by combining the use of a 3D printer and Arduino, measurements and experimental device production were devised as a PBL theme. As a result, it has become possible to construct a system, which has been difficult to construct thus far. Furthermore, it was thought that students completed this PBL work gained the ability to understand comprehensive machine ideas in the fields of both mechanics and electricity.
