Abstract
M e c o p o d a n i p p o n e n s i s a n d X e n o g r y l l u s marmoratus are famous singing Orthopteran species in Japan. In Tenryu Village, a southern part of Nagano prefecture and the northern range limit of the two species in Inadani region, our previous study reported newly colonized sites in 2014. Here, we examined distributions of M. nipponensis and X. marmoratus in Tenryu Village and some other areas in the adjacent northern part of Aichi prefecture and Shizuoka prefecture. We found that their ranges were largely limited along Tenryu River while also found in a few locations along Misakubo River. Our findings indicate that Tenryu River is the main pathway for their range expansion. Thus, northern ranges of these singing insects are expected to expand along Tenryu River in the future.
