Abstract

A variety of cases have illustrated the significant behavioral changes due to frontal lobe damage and much of what we know about the frontal lobe function comes from these case reports. In this report, some characteristic patients after frontal lobe damage, in particular, orbitofrontal cortex, were presented, including those with pathological collecting behavior, squalor syndrome, disappearance of pre-existing depression, and delusional misidentification. Although mechanisms behind these syndromes vary from case to case, some hypotheses have been proposed to explain them, including perseveration of a formerly valuable item, difficulties in evoking an emotion to an imaged situation, and confusion between mental world and external world.
