Abstract

An 83-year-old woman experiencing abdominal pain was referred to our hospital for examination. Dynamic CT revealed a 5-cm mass lesion with ring enhancement in the left lobe of the liver. Cholangiocarcinoma of the liver was diagnosed preoperatively. Hepatic left lateral segmentectomy with partial resection of the diaphragm and local gastrectomy were performed due to the presence of a submucosal tumor in the anterior wall of the stomach. Histopathological examination identified mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the intrahepatic bile duct and metastasis to the stomach. Although postoperative complications did not occur, fever and anorexia persisted. On dynamic CT, multi-organ metastases of the mucoepidermoid carcinoma was diagnosed. She died on postoperative day 45. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the intrahepatic bile duct is very rare and is associated with poor prognosis. Early detection and a curative resection are essential for improving prognosis.
