Description

In the e-Learning system, the design of the time structure of the educational media is important. Dividing video into suitable lengths have a beneficial effect. This is called a segmentation effect. In the media, it can be considered that the learner is adjusting the segment size of learning according to individual understanding and cognitive load. In this paper, we consider the mechanism when the learner performs rewinding etc. in the middle of the learning media from the viewpoint of segmentation effect and cognitive load theory (CLT). And we made a hypothesis that the size and position of the media slice affects the cognitive load at the rewinding operation. Finally, we used an e-Learning App for mathematics to 30 adult men and women and compared with three kinds of different slice conditions. We found that by slicing the media in units of one utterance of about 3 seconds, the learner can perform tasks in a state with a low cognitive load and can learn efficiently.
