Abstract

Background. Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive atypical carcinoid of the lung is rare. Case. A 61-year-old man visited a nearby neurosurgery clinic due to nausea and general fatigue. He was admitted to our hospital to undergo neurosurgery for multiple brain tumors and hydrocephalus due to cerebellar lesions. Open brain tumor excision was performed, and the diagnosis, based on a whole body examination, was ALK-rearrangement atypical carcinoid of the lung. ALK inhibitor treatment reduced the size of the lung tumor. Conclusion. We experienced a case in which atypical carcinoid of the lung successfully treated with an ALK inhibitor.
