Abstract

This study investigates the deformation behavior of RC bridge decks suffering from expansions due to alkali silica reactions (ASR). Based on the parametric analyses for reaction coefficient and the effect of the temperature, the long-term free expansions of specimens can be reproduced with the multi-scale calculation scheme. The scheme was applied to the expansion simulations of real scale RC bridge decks on steel girders. The simulation results showed good agreement in the three dimensional deformations with the experimental results. Meanwhile, still the quantitative predictions of expansion strains needs to be improved. It was supposed that the effective gel volume under three dimensional confinement should be investigated to capture the long-term expansion behaviors of RC decks precisely.
