Abstract

In this study, a weight-impact test was conducted on a small-scale model constructed of sandy soil to collect the basic data to understand the rockfall trapping performance of a rockfall protective soil embankment. The results obtained from this study were as follows: (1) when the weight collides with soil embankment, the behavior can be divided into the penetration and the run-up. In addition, the run-up behavior consists of translational and rotational movements; (2) the penetration level of the weight in the case of steep slope is higher than gentle slope. Furthermore, the translational and rotational movements speed are reduced, and the run-up resistance increases; (3) when the weight collides with, multiple slip lines are generated inside the soil embankment.
