Abstract

Koshihara Memorial Hall has high quality lighting integrated into its architectural and environmental design. The effective interior illumination emphasizes the walls and ceiling and exposes the spaciousness of the building through the glass facade. The brightness of the foyer area is ensured by adopting a design based on "Feu," an index which quantifies the feeling of brightness, and by using the ceiling washers (uplights) built into the wall to evenly irradiate the entire ceiling surface. The project design meets goals for energy performance with an original approach.
