<p>The purpose of this work is to reveal the molecular structures of twist-bend nematogens based on thioether-linked dimers. We synthesized a variety of thioether-linked bent dimers with various mesogenic parts in the arms and linkages opposite to the thioether linkage and investigated their phase transition behavior by polarized optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. It was revealed that the terminal cyano groups with large dipole moments in arm prerequisite to make dimers mesogenic, and the thioether-linked dimers with a different linkage opposite to the thioether linkage have a potential for twist-bend nematogens.</p>
