Abstract

A 5-year-and-2-month-old Holstein cow was presented with a cervical mass. Physical examination revealed a left cervical mass and enlarged superficial lymph nodes. By fine needle aspiration cytology of the left superficial cervical lymph node, approximately 70% of cells were medium or large atypical lymphoid cells. Hematology and serum biochemical findings included elevated lymphocyte count, lactate dehydrogenase activity and thymidine kinase activity. Nested polymerase chain reaction for bovine leukemia virus(BLV)and antibody against BLV were both negative. During necropsy, masses were found in the left cervical, left pectoral, left axillary regions and in the abdominal and pelvic cavities. Generalized lymphadenopathy was also noted. Histopathological examination showed solitary proliferation of large round neoplastic cells. By immunohistochemistry, most of the neoplastic cells were positive for CD3, and some were positive for BLA-36 and CD20. Double immunofluorescence confirmed co-expression of CD3 and BLA-36 in neoplastic cells. The cow was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma with co-expression of a B-cell marker.
