Abstract

Introducing ethical perspectives makes design activities more creative. This effect was confirmed by conducting three kinds of user studies. In this paper, firstly, the ethical design theory organizes the hypotheses to explain the mechanism of this creativity support effect by ethics. In detail, there can be the effect to reconsider design purposes from the highest level and the effect to notice wider conceptual space for design solutions. The experimental tool for the user studies is our organic and dynamic creativity support tool for promoting ethical design practice (Dfrome). As the results, the hypotheses were supported with observing the effect we expected. In addition, some results are difficult to be explained by the present version of the ethical design theory, which allow us to update the theory. Finally, this paper introduces some future works including the results of a reflection of discussions on this work with other experts.
