<p>Cohort analysis has been usually used to project the future population by age groups. However, this method may not be useful in case that the number of immigrants is much larger than the number of birth or death. This paper presents a new method which brings the proper relationships between household types and housing types into the projection. We can estimate the future population in a zone using the number of housing units by type projected there. Test results in Osaka metropolitan area shows that this method is better than the cohort analysis method in the case of Osaka city projection at 2010.</p>
