Abstract

The glass harp is an instrument that produces sounds by rubbing the rim of a glassware with the fingers, and since one glass is required for each note, there are some limitations to the music played on the glass harp. In this study, we created a "multi-layered glass harp" using multiple glass bowls and realized the following three requirements: a single instrument can play multiple sounds, a variety of techniques not available in conventional glass harps, and easy to carry. It also gave a lingering reverberation not found in conventional grass harps. Acoustic analysis revealed that the tone of the multi-layered glass harp changed significantly with the presence of water in the bowl.
