Description

<p>The supernatural phenomena in Kusa-meikyū are usually represented by voices or eyes. The effect of voices has been often pointed out, but that of eyes is equally important in this ghost story. Referring to the principle of ghost stories which Kyōka Izumi unfolds in the essay on his first story, here I will demonstrate that the author depends on synecdoche in the form of voices and eyes to effectively represent the supernatural.</p>
