Abstract

This study aims to clarify the following two research questions (RQs) about the problems of grocery disadvantaged shoppers in Japan, based on a questionnaire survey conducted in a high-aged residential area in an outskirt of central Tokyo: RQ1) What kinds of subjective evaluations to the grocery stores constitute individual’ s perception of difficulty with getting groceries? RQ2) What influences does the difficulty have on the individual’ s shopping behaviors and dietary intakes? The followings are main results to these RQs :1) From the view of accessibility, not only distance but dissatisfaction to traffic convenience and safety (if regarded as important) to the stores are factors of difficulty. In addition, dissatisfaction to the quality of groceries of the store is also one of the factors. 2) The difficulty reduces the shopping frequency of people who go to the store by walk or public transportations. This makes people difficult to get and take sufficient variety of groceries.
