Abstract

Metal V-belt CVT requires Hydraulic drive system, and Toroidal CVT has complex structures; thus, authors regarded a rolling element bearing as the planetary gear mechanism and proposed a CVT having a simple structure and manufactured easily. The CVT using cylindrical roller bearing can transmit power without preloading device. The diameter of the oversized rolling element used for this CVT is made larger than that of the original rolling element, thereby the systems can transmit power by means of traction drive. In addition, the gear ratio can be changed by controlling the rotation speed of the bearing outer ring. Aiming at the power transmission efficiency of continuously variable transmissions currently in widespread use, we attempted to improve the power transmission efficiency by improving the surface properties and surface shape of the sliding contact surface. The following results were obtained by the test. It was confirmed that the lubrication condition was improved by the reduction of the surface roughness and the formation of the concave curved surface, and the power transmission efficiency was accordingly improved.
