Abstract

Cyclodextrins(CyD)contain hydrophobic cavities, in which they can entrap organic compounds in water and release them in alcohols. In this study, we investigated the phenols recovery from industrial wastewater(containing 89g/L of phenol)in a phenolic resin manufacturing plant using prepared β-CyD polymer bead chemical adsorbents. The obtained results revealed that phenol crystals with purity>87% were recovered with 52% recovery. Thus, herein we demonstrate the possibility of recovering resources and energy for useful compounds in raw industrial wastewater.
