This study examined sex differences of the relationships between children's social behaviors and sociometric status in their classrooms in early childhood. Subjects were 38 four-year-old and 35 five-year-old children. Social behaviors were investigated by means of a questionnaire, and measured by their homeroom teachers. Sociometric status in children's classroom was investigated by the interview method with the interviewer asking each child the names of friends whom he/she wanted to play with. Their sociometric status groups were classified into the H-group and the L-group according to the mean point of chosen numbers. The following significant results were obtained. Many roommates chose five-year-old boys who could take the leadership as playmates. And they chose five-year-old boys who were cooperative, too. The above results suggested that boys should take a leadership and be cooperative in order to adjust to the peer group.
