公共空間等における移動支援用音案内の改良を目指して，「産総研オープンラボ」を利用した実証実験を行った．案内音には，駅改札口等に多く設置され，擬音語で「ピン・ポーン」と表現される音を使用した．さらに，音源方向をより判りやすくするために，聴覚心理学的知見に基づいて案内音を改良した．また，超音波スピーカを併用して音の到達範囲を制御し，周囲の者にうるささの印象を与えることなく，多くの来場者に音案内を聞かせることを試みた．アンケート調査等の結果によると，約70%の来場者が音案内の存在に気づき，さらにその半数近くは目的の会場にたどり着く「手がかりになった」と回答した．音案内は元来，視覚障害者支援を目的としたものであるが，必ずしも視覚障害をもたない者にも有効に活用されることが明らかとなった．同時に，音案内の正しい理解と活用のためには，案内する内容の事前周知が重要であることが改めて確認された．
