<p>We prepared side-chain liquid crystalline polymers (SCLCPs) composed of azobenzene (Az) and cyanobiphenyl (CB) mesogens. The structure of the liquid crystalline (LC) phase of the SCLCPs was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement, polarization microscope (POM) observation and X-ray scattering (XRS) measurement. In DSC measurement, the isotropization temperature for the random copolymers and polymer blends of the two mesogen compositions shifted to the higher temperature compared to that of each homopolymer. Furthermore, XRS measurement revealed that the SCLCPs exhibited smectic B and smectic E phase. These facts indicate that the interactions between the two mesogens induce the enhancement of the thermal stability of LC phase and the highly ordered smectic phase.</p>
