Abstract

Difficulties in providing human services in the midst of the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are discussed from a discourse and social construction perspective. Assuming that the discourses surrounding SARS-CoV-2 are “infection risks of SARS-CoV-2,” “management risks of SARS-CoV-2,” and “clinical risks of SARS-CoV-2,” we examined what discourses can be found in the transition of institutional management in a private psychological practice. We also examined how these discourses affected the therapist–client relationship in individual clinical cases by referring to the concepts of “distance” and “position” in the systems approach.
