Abstract

<p>A 67-year-old man presented to our hospital after he visited a primary care clinic for chest pain, and an intrahepatic mass was identified, measuring approximately 12 cm, using ultrasound imaging. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen revealed multiple tumors in both lobes of the liver with hyper-enhanced rim on arterial phase, along with bulky intraperitoneal lymphadenopathy. Positron emission tomography revealed abnormal fluorodeoxyglucose uptake only in these lesions. Histological and immunohistochemical examinations of a percutaneous needle biopsy specimen of the liver tumor indicated a diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed with primary hepatic leiomyosarcoma and received systemic chemotherapy (first-line: doxorubicin/ifosfamide; second-line: eribulin; third-line: trabectedin; and fourth-line: pazopanib). After 23 months of therapy, the patient received the best supportive care and died 26 months after the initial diagnosis.</p>
