Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of padding materials and dressing materials on skin contact pressure(SCP)due to wearing elastic compression stockings(ECS). In total, 30 legs of 15 healthy adults were examined. Subjects wore Comprinet® Pro anti-embolism knee length stockings(Terumo BSN K.K., Tokyo, Japan). The SCP was measured at three points on the anterior side of the tibia using a pressure measuring device for stockings/bandages(AMI3037-S, B, AMI Techno Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan). Compared with ECS alone, the SCP increased at sites where dressing materials were applied and decreased at sites where dressing materials were not applied. In particular, urethane sheets are appropriate for application in combination with ECS for increasing or concentrating SCP at the site of application. However, Artiflex® was the only material that reduced the SCP at the site of application. Application of Artiflex® evenly distributed the SCP on irregularly shaped areas to alleviate localized SCP without increasing the SCP at the site of application.
