Description
<p>This paper examined the applicability of ultimate bearing capacity formula of AIJ by taking account of size effect of footing. The constitutive equation of non-linear shear strength model against the confining stress was employed, which was based on the shear strength property of the Toyoura sand. The effect of cohesion on the ultimate bearing capacity was focused. The coefficients in the formula was computed and compared with the AIJ formula for the combination of cohesion and angle of shear resistance under various footing sizes.</p>
