Abstract

<p>In recent years, the aging of the population, etc have become a problem in local cities in Japan. In order to improve these problems, many cities are aiming for an urban structure called a compact city. In this study, I understand the urban structure of Toyama city and Nagano city. In addition, by evaluating the aging of the compact city policies of the two cities, the challenges of future urban policies are clarified. Sprawl has been remarkable in Toyama city for a long time. At present, the degree of crowd of Toyama city is low compared with Nagano city in terms of population distribution and land use. However, it has been found that Toyama city has been steadily promoting its compact city policy in 10 years.</p>
