Abstract

Dontei-Robun, a resourceful person who invented “kiritsuke-bon” anthologies, made his debut as a writer Kanagaki-Robun with his editorially innovated work Kokkei-fuji-moude. After writing several illustrated stories, he completed a couple of “kokkei-bon” books Seiyō-dōchū-hizakurige and Agura-nabe in the traditional style of popular fiction established by Juppensha-Ikku and Sikitei- Sanba. In Agura-nabe the entrepreneurial author used an actual restaurant called Hinode for the setting of the story with the aim of advertising it. In this sense it is one of the earliest tie-in books in Japan.
