Abstract

In the reserch on diet of Jomon period, the study on vegetable foods, which has been unregarded, is making rapid progress. Especially, it is very important to examine the group of acorn storaging pits locating in the lowland. As the result of the study, we find that it is neccessary to reconsider the limit of settlement drastically. In another words, we must arrange to excavate on the premise that a settlement area (former concept on "settlement") is separate from a group of storaging pits in the lowland basically. If there is a distance between them, it is more difficult to find even a shard of pottery or other archaeological materials as samples for age determination in a storaging pit. And because we cannot always find acorns in good state of preservation, it will be more important to determine the age using a microelemental sample.
