The purpose of this study was to examine the availability of subject-object interview (SOI) in Japan through developing Japanese version based on Kegan's constructive-developmental theory. 3 interviewers administered SOI to a total of 18 participants. On the whole, the scoring standard of SOI was applicable to their responses and 3 scorers could score their responses. However, some difficulties of SOI became clear through administering and scoring it. It turned out that on the whole, Japanese version of SOI was available to Japanese participants. And the difficulties of SOI need to be examined.
