Christian Love cannot be reduced to human feeling. It is impossible to think of love without the existence of God and human love rests on divine love in Christian thought. In other words the relation between God and a human being decides that between human beings. Such a conception of love is designated in Jesus' teachings that are written in Synoptic Gospels. Jesus' teachings are told as two commandments, the first is 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' and the second is 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' (Mat. 22: 37-39). According to Donald A. Hagner the two love commandments belong together, covering the vertical (relationship with God) and the horizontal (relationship with others) dimensions. Kierkegaard regards the second love commandments (You shall love your neighbor as yourself) as a human obligation. He thinks that love is assured eternally as long as to love is an obligation.
