Thanks to the technological revolution of the last decade, i.e., the advent of the DVD, the number of films, previously available only on video cassette, has vastly increased, providing teachers with a valuable new tool for teaching language, literature and culture. This paper will illustrate some of the principal pedagogical opportunities afforded by the film medium, taking as an example The Hours directed by Stephen Daldry, scripted by the renowned English playwright Sir David Hare, and based on the novel written by Michael Cunningham.
