Description

In this study, we investigated the effect of resilience on the stress response. The participants were 301 high school second graders. The result clarified the following:( 1) the “other person’s trust” factor of resilience lowers stress responses in terms of “physical response,” “cognition−thoughts of helplessness,” “depressive−anxious feelings,” and “irritated−angry affect”;( 2) the “willingness to achieve” factor of resilience lowers stress responses in terms of “cognition−thoughts of helplessness,” “irritated−angry affect,” and “feeling of tiredness”;( 3) the “ambition” factor of resilience lowers the “physical response” factor of the stress response; and(4) the “self-confidence” factor of resilience mitigates the “physical response,” “depressive−anxious feelings,” and “irritated−angry affect” factors of the stress response. Furthermore,(5) the “optimism” factor of resilience was shown not to affect the stress response. From the above results, it was shown that “other person’s trust,” “willingness to achieve,” and “ambition” are resilience factors that reduce the stress response in high school students. On the other hand, “self-confidence” does not necessarily reduce the stress response, and it seems there is room for further study.
