説明

The source rock of the Amehata-suzuri, a traditional craft object in Yamanashi Prefecture, is specially produced along the Amehata River valley in Hayakawa-cho, Yamanashi Prefecture. We carry out polarizing microscopic observation and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis on the source rock with phyllite produced around the Amehata River valley and shale produced near the Itoigawa-Shizuoka Tectonic Line (ISTL) along the Hayakawa River valley to judge whether or not we should call the source rock slate. The polarizing microscopic observation shows that the source rock hardly has preferred orientation of the recrystallized minerals such as chlorites and illite, while the phyllite and shale have strong preferred orientation of the recrystallized minerals, implying the influence of shearing of ISTL. On the other hand, the XRD analysis reveals that the source rock has strong XRD peaks of chlorites and illite produced by hydrothermal reaction at high temperature of 200ºC or more. This means that the source rock has been without doubt subjected to metamorphism accompanying hydrothermal reaction at high temperature. We conclude that the source rock should be called slate.
