In the course of study on the excess current of Esaki diode, authors have made current-voltage curve tracer in order to measure easily current-voltage characteristics of Esaki diode which is fabricated for experiments. The way is discussed how to display true characteristics without switching and oscillation, and how to measure characteristics of Esaki diode over wide range of negative resistance. The load resistance of the test set can vary from 2 to 40Ω according to the negative resistance, and the lead wire of measuring circuit is shortened extremely to reduce residual inductance. It is possible to display the full curve of characteristics over the peak current renge of 1 to 100mA by the curve tracer.
