After graduating from Nihon Joshi Taiiku Senmon Gakkou, Chouko Mabuchi (1911-1985) and Kiyoko Nagayama (1911-2001) studied at a flight school and obtained their pilot's licenses. In those days, female pilots were very rare. The first of Mabuchi's adventures was a flight to her hometown in Akita prefecture. She left Tokyo on August 10, 1934 and it took her 4 days to get her destination because her plane broke down on the way.When she arrived, about 25.000 townsfolk welcomed her. At this time Nagayama also demonstrated her own unique skills by skydiving,jumping out of a plane at an altitude of 300 meters. The second of Mabuchi's adventures, involved flying from Tokyo to Choshun, China. She left Tokyo on October 26, 1934 and arrived in Choshun on November 5. People were very impressed at this daring feat : unfortunately,Nagayama could not go to China with Mabuchi, because of serious injury she had suffered in a plane crash. After flying to China, Mabuchi gave up flying and dedicated herself to be a high school physical education teacher.
